is how you wash and stack the dishes up! To prove my point in an ongoing marital discussion between my prince charming and myself over dish washing and the 'how to' aspect of it all I came upon this spectacular moment the other night around...oh midnight as I washed the dishes from the evening...and alright - you got me! the day....(I did wash the kitchen floor the second night after we moved in though!!)....well Ryan and I always discuss whether or not you should wash the dishes and dry them right away (the way he was brought up) or leave them in the "drying rack" (hence the name) for drying on their own (my way growing up especially if the other sibling was not there to dry - we wouldn't dare do both!!) and then putting them away at your earliest convenience so as to eliminate the time to dry them manually. (You can probably figure out which side of the fence I sit on here! :) Well....at our first house up here the dishwasher was on the lower cost end as far as dish washers go and was well...poor at getting the food off to say the least. We had to rinse the food off beforehand and then wash them in the dishwasher...so really washing them twice? Annoying. Anyways, we jumped on this place and we were so grateful for it (and it is gorgeous!) that we didn't even really check out the kitchen except to notice that it had green counter tops, was clean, and welll.....that's it! When we decided to take it (about three minutes into seeing it) and right away after.... SOOO...we didn't realize that it didn't come with a dishwasher until AFTER we started moving our stuff in! :) I said to Ryan,"see?? we complained about the last one and now God says, 'now you'll have NONE!' and see how you like it :).....Oh well, washing the dishes by hand really is relaxing for me and brings me back to my growing up years when my mom called me "her little dishwasher" when she told me we didn't need one b/c she had us :).....more free therapy!! :) AND I can stack them with the best of them! (wouldn't want to have to stop in the middle and start drying them!!)

These are the "new" curtains from Linda and Phil's new house. Thanks Linda and Mom!

This is my new "studio" - yay! Small but mighty I say. I am interested to see how God works in this little room for our family and for the clients I hope to serve :)

The VIEW from my little studio...(sigh)...so relaxing. And they sprayed for mosquitos too so we're all set :) Come on over and visit us anytime!

Rosie --- I laughed at your dishes-stacking-ability. I am all for air drying! I guess I did not inherit the dry-right-away trait. (Although I sure like my dishwasher!!).
You are VERY welcome for the curtains. I am glad to see they will get some future use :-)
And I LOVE the lake view!
Linda
Rosie,
The curtains look great, and the price was right, thanks to Linda.
Just think, in a few years Caleb will be able to wipe those dishes for you. :)

I just thought of the reason for washing your dishes immediately after the meal. They are easier to wash and are dry (when air drying) before you go to bed, so that you can get up the a clean counter and start all over again :)
okay, just so you know I (rosie) did not leave that last comment...i STILL totally believe in letting them air dry...although I do appreciate when my better half does wash and dry them and it's all done and I walk in and the kitchen is all ready to go. But....it might take me a while to change my ways...good habits are hard to break! ;)
Rosie.......:)
Also, I am not talking about letting the crusty food dishes sit in the sink and get gross and hard to wash. I too believe in washing them right away. It's the drying aspect I am talking about here.
Ryan and Rosie, we are all for the natural way up here. No dishwasher since getting married and I am alive and well. In fact, our kids have learned the art of washing dishes so that all of them rotate every week as to who does what job for supper dishes. (I do the rest while they are in school) As for drying them, I let them air dry. I learned (this is a plug for you, Rosie) that air drying is better than towel drying because towels carry bacteria and can spread to the dishes. Also, they aren't always dry when you put them away, and that is not good to have stacked wet dishes in the cupboards. This is my story and I am sticking to it!!! Jim would rather have the counter dry and clear at night so he has space to make his lunch. So, you are NOT the ONLY couple to argue about this issue.
