A neat moment...April 2010
Had a neat moment as a mommy and teacher this afternoon. I took the boys on a walk to run errands and then to the park. I walked and pushed Jeremiah in the stroller and Caleb and Benjamin rode their bikes. It was very sunny and hot (yay!!) and the two older boys rode, talked, looked around, nearly crashed, and were basically distracted the whole way which made for one frazzled mama lol. :) On the way to the park we passed the Princeville Catholic church and while riding all the way up front Caleb shouted back to me (because their training wheels are pretty loud) "Hey Mom! Do they still baptize babies in the there!?!", a little taken aback I shouted "Yes they do honey!" He then replied, "Why haven't they reformed yet?!?!" LOL - this was a great/funny moment for me because we learned about Martin Luther and the reformation last week. Caleb was pretty interested like he usually is with history lessons and apparently put this info away in his little brain for keeps (like usual - we often joke that he has a memory like a steel trap!) and also connected it to previously learned info...like PREVIOUSLY. TWO years ago when he would have been three we walked past the Catholic church and talked about how I was raised in the Catholic church and he asked all sorts of questions like why can't we go to the Catholic church? etc. etc. We discussed the difference (discussing doctrin with a three year old is def. interesting!) Well...he remembered...about the babies and that they baptize babies and we don't at the Baptist church. We wait until a person is old enough to profess Christ as Savior and Lord on their own and then choose to be baptized as an outward symbol of their faith in Christ...to tell the world they love and have decided to obey Jesus Christ much like a wedding band shows that someone is married. My heart was happy...I can only pray that he truly is internalizing all that he learning. Makes me glad that we have chosen to home educate even if it means frazzled walks with ALL my boys when the older two could be at school and I could be having "alone time" with Jeremiah - it has been a great journey and has been totally worth it. :)
